Agrotravel was the official alternative tourism portal in Greece. It consisted of informative guides of all areas of touristic interest in Greece. It was a very innovative implementation at a time when google maps was not yet available.
The UX challenge was to create content-heavy pages that incorporated different types of information in clean, easy-to-digest way. This was achieved with the help of a symbol-based visual language and a comprehensive geographic & thematic thesaurus.
Agrotravel was a public-sector initiative. It was very successful during its run with hundreds of thousands unique visitors monthly. It was closed down due to the economic crisis.
